BAKING KNOW HOW

Pre heat oven before starting and have all utensils and ingredients to hand.

Use all ingredients at room temperature, including eggs if possible.

Cooking times are given as an approximation only; ovens vary so you need to keep an eye on what you are baking.

Use vegetable oil or similar tasteless oil for cake making. Strongly flavoured oils such as olive are not suitable.

Greasing and lining tins ensures the cake comes out of the tin cleanly. Brush the tin(s) with melted butter or oil. Draw round the base of the tin onto greaseproof paper or baking parchment. Cut round the shape and place onto the base of the tin.

Butter or margarine can be used for cake making and for frostings and icings. Butter is generally considered to have a better flavour, but it is a matter of personal preference and convenience.

Using an electric whisk gives better volume when cake making - a wooden spoon can be used if an electric whisk is not available, but it will take a lot more effort!

Let your imagination run riot - use our baking mixes as a base for all sorts of cakes and cookies. Add other ingredients, bake them in different shapes... the only limit is your imagination!!
