Recipe of the Month for September 2004

This recipe uses the Jane Asher Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix


Chocolate Orange Heaven


Ingredients:
1 packet of Jane Asher Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix and the ingredients as shown on the packet. Also:
80ml (3 fl oz) Single Cream
50g (2 oz) Brown Sugar
2 Medium Oranges (washed)
7 1 /2 ml (1 1 /2 tsp) Orange Liqueur (optional)
100ml (4 fl oz) Water
Rectangular Tin 27cm x 18cm (10 1 /2'' x 7'') or
Square Tin 21cm x 21cm (8 1 /4'' x 8 1 /4'')
Preparation Instructions:
Cooking appliances vary. These instructions are given only as
a guide.
1. PREPARE CHOCOLATE ORANGE SYRUP.
Preheat
oven to 180°C (160°C for fan assisted ovens)
/350°F/Gas Mark 4.
Cut 2 oranges into quarters and squeeze the juice into
a pan. Place the remains of the squeezed oranges into the
pan of juice together with 50g (2 oz) brown sugar, 100ml
(4 fl oz) water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes
with pan lid on and then 5 minutes without pan lid on to
reduce syrup.
Sieve the contents of the pan into a bowl and add the
contents of the Chocolate Filling sachet. Whisk until smooth.
2. PREPARE CHOCOLATE CAKE.
Prepare
the chocolate cake as directed on the packet,
pouring the mixture into the rectangular/square tin.
Pour the chocolate orange syrup over the uncooked mixture
and bake in the centre of the oven for 30-40 minutes.
3. PREPARE CHOCOLATE LIQUEUR SAUCE.
Prepare
the frosting as directed on the packet, stir in the
single cream and orange liqueur. Transfer to a pan and
heat gently until a smooth consistency is obtained.
DO NOT BOIL.
